A FILETTA IN CONCERT

The repertoire produced today by this vocal sextet is a faithful reflection of what is, since the beginning of the 1980s’, its «forward walk » : a trajectory outlining a movement initiated in a secular orality and asserting itself in the twists and turns of a writing without complex, freed from any filial obligation. Sacred music stands alongside profane songs with multiple influences, films scores with Bruno Coulais, creations for Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s choreographies, choruses for an antique tragedy or pieces from a requiem requested by the Saint-Denis Festival.

In this repertoire of sacred songs, A Filetta gives to hear a cappella polyphonies which have punctuated religious life on the island since immemorial times. From archaic songs coming from oral tradition to contemporary creations, the singers highlight a memory of hope which reminds us of the fact that our human condition remains in our ability to rise beyond darkness…

A' CORE DATU: MEETING-CONCERT
A journey through polyphonic music.
An "immersion" in the history of polyphony through A Filetta's singular artistic career and its creations. An exchange between the audience and A Filetta and a "linving" and "singing" lecture on 40 years of musical journey.

CLAIR-OBSCUR — A FILETTA AND CONSTANTINOPLE
In this common repertoire, both of the ensembles meet in order to create an enchanting sonic painting in which light and shadow mix. Corsican polyphony by A Filetta as well as songs and Persian art music orchestrated by Kiya Tabassian will come together in a deeply moving concert.

CONVERSATION(S) — A FILETTA AND FADIA TOMB EL-HAGE

On the one hand the captivating and velvet tones of Fadia Tomb El-Hage, on the other the voices of the A Filetta choir.
In this show a capella appears in all its purity. Sacred and profane songs, sung in Corsican, Arabic or Syriac, they bring together two universes and musical traditions of which the osmosis is a result of a great ability to listen and a perfect complementarity between the artists. If each of them keeps their specificity, these conversations open imaginary spaces which are gently traced through the voices' melismata and the fusion of timbres.
From this encounter was born a unique symbiosis, a limpid polyphony, a poetic and timeless harmony which fuses Corsican and middle-eastern repertories.

DANCE MEMORY, DANCE — A FILETTA, PAOLO FRESU AND DANIELE DI BONAVENTURA

A musical and vocal work with as its theme the complementary and contrasting perspectives of two men, both islanders, both exceptional and having marked the twentieth century: Aimé Césaire, writer, poet and playwright from Martinique and Jean Nicoli, a teacher and resistance fighter who was executed in 1943 by the fascist Italian occupying forces. The two men had in common their political engagement and humanism, notably through their judgement of colonialism.
Corsicans and Italians, polyphonists and jazzmen, all deep rooted musicians, voice, trumpet and bandoneon contribute to bringing out the ideals but also the dreams of these “cloud princes” by offering a mixed music that belongs to no-one precisely because it belongs to everyone.

ARCHINCANTO — A FILETTA ET CONDUCTUS
Since 1978, A Filetta has forged a balance between traditional song and original contemporary creation. Since its formation about 20 years ago, the Conductus Ensemble, under the direction of Marcello Fera, has undertaken a similar artistic approach in Italy.
Their meeting gave rise to a world in which constrasts harmonise and where thee popular inflections of the oral tradition upheld by A Filetta and the classical harmony of the Conductus strings weave an original pattern of colours. The sacred and profane, the popular and the scholarly, rather than being in opposition, actually complement each other marvelously.

THE WAKE-UP CALL: A PERFECT BLEND OF GENRES — A FILETTA ET ANDY EMLER
When writing meets oral tradition to imagine a new original musical language. Great soloists and improvisers dedicated to vocal polyphony, and great singers dedicated to instrumentalists.
A coherent musical journey where everyone finds his place, where everyone has his moment, where everyone enjoys listening to each other.  Indeed, this work evolves around altruism and curiosity which are aroused by our differences, these wonderful cultural sustenances that are exchanges and respect.
